In a new twist in the war between Iran and the U.S., President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it is Washington, not Tehran that “has total control over the Strait of Hormuz,” adding, “I think we will keep it.”

According to a story by Newsmax, in a Truth Social post, Trump boasted about the strength of the U.S. naval blockade amid the ongoing war with Iran and Tehran’s efforts to limit shipping through one of the world’s most essential energy chokepoints.

“Our Naval Blockade is being called, by everyone, ‘A WALL OF STEEL,’ and there is nothing Iran can do about it,” Trump wrote.

Trump depicted Iran as increasingly weakened by months of conflict, saying Tehran has “no Navy” or “Air Force” and asserting that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been “decimated.”

In addition, Trump spoke about Iran’s drastic economic problems and inflation.

“Iran is all talk and no action, the Bully of the Middle East No Longer,” Trump wrote.

Still, Trump’s comments came as the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial worldwide point of contention, has a commercial traffic far below prewar level.

Newsmax reported that only eight vessels were tracked in the strait Tuesday, the lowest daily total since Aug. 5, according to Kepler data.

The comparison is in stark contrast with the 130 to 140 ships that typically passed through the strategic waterway before Iran closed it following the start of U.S.-Israeli attacks Feb. 28.

The newly appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, said Tuesday that the strait would be kept closed unless Washington changes its behavior and accepts Iranian conditions for ending the war.

Tehran’s terms include ending the war, releasing frozen Iranian assets and ending fighting elsewhere in the region, including Lebanon and Gaza.
