First Lady Jill Biden commended the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony despite controversy over its portrayal resembling the Last Supper. Biden, leading the U.S. delegation, praised the “spectacular” ceremony. However, heavy rain soaked athletes as they paraded down the river Seine.

She mentioned the challenge of surpassing Paris’ ceremony for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Biden highlighted Hollywood’s magic as a key feature. She expressed confidence that Los Angeles would reflect new dreamers in its culture.

Some U.S. and global leaders criticized the Paris event for its depiction of the Last Supper, finding it disrespectful to Christians worldwide. House Speaker Mike Johnson denounced the mockery, emphasizing the importance of truth and virtue prevailing.

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, criticized the ceremony for insulting billions of Christians and labeled it as “seedy.”
