A House Republican lawmaker has accused Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of denying additional Secret Service protection for former President Trump on multiple occasions.
After Trump was grazed by a bullet at a rally in Pennsylvania, Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., stated that there were repeated requests for increased Secret Service protection for Trump that were allegedly turned down by Secretary Mayorkas.
The House Homeland Security Committee is set to investigate the reports of Trump being denied heightened Secret Service protection before the rally, according to a source from Fox News Digital.
At the rally, one attendee was killed and two others were injured by a shooter, who was later killed by the Secret Service.
Rep. Waltz, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, did not provide further details when contacted by Fox News Digital.
The U.S. Secret Service denied claims that additional security resources were requested and refused, stating that they had enhanced protective measures in response to increased campaign travel.
Trump expressed gratitude to law enforcement and offered condolences to the victims in a statement following the shooting.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer called for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheadle to testify publicly before the panel.
Trump described the shooting incident and the injuries he sustained, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and expressing shock at the events that unfolded.
