Former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris are in a tight race in key swing states, as per a recent poll released on Wednesday.

The Ipsos survey revealed that the Republican presidential nominee and his Democratic opponent are neck-and-neck in seven swing states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada.

In these swing states, Harris garners 42% of the vote share, while Trump follows closely with 40%, and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy holds 5%.

Ipsos mentioned in the report that the voting margin falls within the margin of error, indicating a race too close to predict.

About 52% of respondents in the swing states identified inflation as the most critical issue in the country, while 32% pointed to immigration.

The Ipsos poll was conducted from Jul. 31 to Aug. 7, coinciding with Harris’s announcement of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate on Aug. 6.

The impact of Walz’s selection on Harris’s prospects has not been thoroughly evaluated by pollsters yet.

The campaign has emphasized Walz’s Midwestern roots and relatable persona, referring to him as “Coach Walz” during rallies to highlight his background as a teacher and high school football coach.

Harris intends to leverage Walz’s influence in crucial Midwestern swing states like Michigan and Wisconsin, where the Minnesota governor’s regional connections could play a significant role.

The Ipsos poll involved a representative sample of 2,045 respondents and reported a margin of sampling error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.
