A deeply concerning incident that unfolded at Chino High in Chino, California, on November 5th. A teacher, entrusted with the responsibility of fostering a supportive learning environment, chose instead to wield his authority to belittle and silence students expressing differing political beliefs.
In a clear abuse of his authority, this teacher made disparaging remarks about President elect Trump and members of the Christian community, employing inappropriate and offensive language. Most alarmingly, he demanded that a student wearing a Trump hat leave his classroom, an action that starkly highlights a troubling bias and a lack of respect for varying viewpoints.
The Capitol Resource Institute is asking Californians to email the board and superintendent to ensure they know you have their support in taking action to stop this behavior immediately. While the board majority in CVUSD district is doing an amazing job, it’s important to understand that the union often protects teachers and their inappropriate actions, making it more difficult for boards to address the issue fully. By voicing your concerns, we can work together to make sure this behavior is stopped, but we also need to be aware of the challenges posed by the union’s influence in protecting such conduct.
