Catholics for Catholics say that the left-wing media and political establishment are vitriolically attacking him and thwarting the will of the American people with the President’s choice for leading the most important Federal District in the Country.

General Michael Flynn (ret), Senior Advisor to Catholics for Catholics and CEO John Yep co-signed a statement on May 1, in defense of the U.S. Attorney of the District of Columbia, as someone who is being unfairly attacked for his bold views and for support of the policies of President Trump.
Referencing his Catholic Faith, they are defending Ed Martin, who was picked by President Donald Trump as his nominee for U.S. Attorney of the District of Columbia. The group believes that left-leaning political activists led by Sen. Adam Schiff from California are leading a smear campaign against Martin.
Schiff is one of Trump’s biggest detractors. Martin’s critics show not only are they against Trump, but against the 58% of Catholics who voted for President Trump handing him a mandate to nominate the people he needs to serve him in his administration, Yep said.
“Ed Martin, is a man of great character. As a father of four he has made it a point to let his Catholic faith be the guiding light in his public life,” said John Yep, president of Catholics for Catholics. “These attacks vs Ed stem from the same political party which allowed the FBI to raid Catholic homes, imprison pro-lifers, and hold in solitary confinement without trial, those who peacefully protested on January 6th.”
Martin, who is originally from Missouri, has been an interim U.S. Attorney in D.C. since President Trump took office on Jan. 20. His appointment must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
“Ed has never backed down from defending these vulnerable Americans and now it’s time for us to back Ed,” Yep said. “Ironically, many of these injustices occurred precisely in the district where Ed has been nominated to take over. He is therefore precisely the kind of man we need to bring the light of justice to the most important Federal District in the Country.”
Yep’s comments echoes those of President Trump’s, who not only appointed him as U.S. Attorney, but expects the Senate to confirm him despite months of heated backlash from Democrats and some left-leaning media opinion writers.
“Since Inauguration Day, Ed has been doing a great job as Interim U.S. Attorney, fighting tirelessly to restore Law and Order, and make our Nation’s Capital Safe and Beautiful Again,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. “He will get the job done.”
Like Trump, who suffered a terrible backlash and vitriolic attacks during President Joe Biden’s administration, Martin is undergoing the same bullying, Yep said. He added he believes it is the same folks who told countless lies about Trump who are the ones harassing Martin.
“Despite unprecedented attacks by the left-wing media and political establishment, President Trump achieved the greatest political comeback in American history,” Yep said. “The same people who opposed him are attempting to block his presidential nominees.”
The level of animosity extolled by Martin’s detractors just show how much he is needed in his current role, Yep said. Catholics for Catholics and their thousands of supporters around the Country will firmly stand behind him and are asking the U.S. Senate to do the will of the people and confirm him as soon as possible, Yep said.
“As Catholic leaders we ask the esteemed members of the United States Senate to respect the will of the people and allow President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for US Attorney of the District of Columbia to be promptly confirmed,” Yep said.
Since Trump appointed Martin, the interim U.S. Attorney has been busy combatting lawbreaking. In a Newsmax story, Martin said that his predecessor was using the office to get Trump, but during his tenure he has been employing it to fight crime.
“It’s made a big difference already. We see numbers are plummeting. Crime is going down. Violent crime is going down. And its because of the focus on keeping the streets safe and making life better for the people who live here and that’s because of President Trump,” Martin told Newsmax.
Martin’s “Making D.C. safe again” campaign has made violent crime decline by 25% since he took the helm of the U.S. Attorney’s office. Still, he admits there is a lot of work to be done in the crime-ridden capital, especially in carjackings.
Martin, who has an English degree from the College of the Holy Cross and spent two years studying at the Gregorian Pontifical University in Rome as a Rotary Scholar, grew up in New Jersey. He received a law degree from St. Louis University.
A fervent Catholic, Martin supervised legal clinics for low-income residents as director of the human rights office for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis. For two decades prior to becoming the U.S. attorney, he ran his own law practice and was keen in Republican politics, including as the head of the Missouri Republican Party.
