As the immigration debacle grows ever more violent, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and law enforcement agents have increasingly been the target of physical attacks and even shootings. The Epoch Times reported that “some of it has crossed the line between free speech and physical violence.”

It all started in early June, during the ICE protests, when Los Angeles plunged into riots, as rioters flung glass bottles, rocks, and other blunt objects at officers. Others set fire to cars or engaged in physical altercations with police.

All along detractors of ICE in Congress, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have blamed officers for allegedly using excessive force and instigating “psychological terror” by donning masks and driving unmarked vehicles. Authorities said the agents wear masks to avoid being doxxed and targeted.

The Department of Homeland Security has reported a 413 percent rise in assaults on ICE officers. Assaults are now up by a reported 700 percent—and the violence has taken on new forms, according to The Times.

The hostility has risen to incidents where ICE and Border Patrol officers have been under firearm attacks in separate episodes in Texas. On one occasion, a rioter hurled an incendiary device against officers during a recent protest in Portland, Oregon.

In Camarillo, California, an activist reportedly fired at ICE agents during an operation that revealed illegal immigrant children working on a cannabis farm. A man escaping the raid perished after falling 30 feet from a building.

The Epoch Times has identified anti-ICE graffiti across the country, from Sacramento, California, to Denver, Indianapolis, Chicago, and even Nebraska.

Scott Mechkowski, former deputy director at ICE’s New York City field office, told The Epoch Times that “this is only going to get worse.”

Roy Boyd, Sheriff of Goliad County, Texas, told The Epoch Times that he “can see that it’s escalating: What you’re seeing is not protests. What you’re seeing is an insurgency.”
