Now it’s Iran that wants to make a deal with the U.S.

The deal is this: Open the Strait of Hormuz, lift the U.S. blockade on Iran and put a finish to the war, as nuclear negotiations remain ongoing, according to a story by Newsmax.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister presented this novel plan to Pakistan on Sunday, after a preliminary offer from Iran a day earlier had been rejected by President Trump, according to the Iranian officials familiar with the details of negotiations who asked not to be named because they were discussing sensitive diplomacy.

With the Iran proposal, it is offering to terminate its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. lifting its blockade on the country putting an end to the war, while proposing that discussions on the larger question of its nuclear program would come in a later phase, two regional officials said Monday.

However, President Donald Trump seems dubious to accept the offer, which was passed to the Americans by Pakistan and would leave unsettled the disagreements that led the U.S. and Israel to go to war on Feb. 28.

As for now, the peace truce is unsteady while the U.S. and Iran are clasped in a standoff over the strait, through which a fifth of the world’s traded oil and gas passes in peacetime.

Last week, President Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely after the U.S. and Iran agreed to on April 7, a move that halted fighting. But a set deal remains intangible in the war that has killed thousands of people.

Araghchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday in Saint Petersburg, Russian state news agency Tass said. Putin lauded the Iranian people as “bravely and heroically fighting for their sovereignty” and said Russia would do everything possible to bring peace to the Middle East, Tass reported.
