In a recent segment of “Greg Kelly Reports” on Newsmax, Kelly drew heavily from the words of John Yep, president of Catholics for Catholics, as he offered opinion on the tensions between President Trump and Pope Leo XIV.
Specifically, Kelly was scrutinizing the recent meeting between Pope Leo and David Axelrod, a former advisor to President Obama.
Kelly commented that Trump won 58% of the Catholic vote in the 2024 election, but that the Catholic vote has historically been considered a swing vote. There is now talk of a plot to re-initiate the borderless policies of the Biden administration to help the Democrats win the next election.
In this context, Kelly pointed to the recent statement of Yep, in which he asserted that “President Trump is right to ask the Holy Father about his high-profile meeting with key Obama strategist David Axelrod.”
Kelly thanked Yep for sharing this recommendation, and referred to another part of Yep’s statement that read: “There is a well-organized attempt by the left to sever the Catholic base from the Republican Party, which up until now has been more aligned with Catholic teaching than the Democrat Party,”to which Kelly added, “Amen.”
He finished highlighting Yep’s statement by pointing to this quote: “This is a highly coordinated operation from key Obama advisors and prominent liberal Catholic clergy intentionally stoking the flames of discord with the intention of separating the Catholic base from the Republican Party.”
Catholics for Catholics has gained the attention of media outlets from around the world recently, from the New York Times, to the BBC, the Wall Street Journal, Italian newspapers, Univision, and more.
