In a clash between protestors and federal officers, the Department of Homeland Security said agents arrested several folks after what the agency described as violent protests targeting immigration enforcement operations in New Jersey, according to a story by Newsmax.
On Wednesday on X, DHS said the arrests in Newark came after instances in which demonstrators allegedly attacked and interfered with officers carrying out operations meant to detain and remove immigrants living in the country illegally who have criminal records.
“These violent rioters will NOT slow us down in our mission to REMOVE criminal illegal aliens from New Jersey,” the department said in the statement.
Those who were arrested now face charges that include assaulting, resisting and impeding federal officers. Homeland Security did not reveal the number of people arrested, their identities or details about the incidents that led to the arrests.

The protests were violent, according to Homeland Security, though media reports and statements from partakers indicated many demonstrators were protesting immigration enforcement policies peacefully before clashes intensified.
“Assaulting law enforcement is a crime and felony,” the department said. “ANYONE who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
