Fifty-three of the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) 67 Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grants are being cut to open up funding for alternative programs according to a Daily Signal report.
The Biden administration spent $67 million on a variety of these programs which promoted “inappropriate” material to minors that contained “medically inaccurate” and “sexually explicit” content, including pornography, abortion, transgenderism, contraception, and more to audiences in middle school and high school.
One of the curricula being cut gave instructions for how a minor in California can obtain even late term abortions without parental consent and described abortion as a “very safe procedure.”
A separate curriculum openly encouraged the use of pornography to obtain ideas for how to improve one’s sexual life. Other programs outlined obtaining condoms, and even mentioned specific homosexual settings in which to use condoms. Even worse, this role-play involving homosexual intercourse also mentions that one of the male characters has a “serious girlfriend,” implicitly promoting not only homosexual activity but also bisexual identities.
Multiple programs instructed students on how to use a condom, and some of these programs were aimed at children as young as 11 years old.
The Trump administration is diverting funding from these programs in favor of ones that “provide medically accurate and age-appropriate programs that reduce teen pregnancy and advance adolescent health by strengthening body literacy, informed consent, and optimal health through the replication of effective teen pregnancy prevention (TPP) programs.” The administration is also asking for grant applications aimed at reducing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the behavioral risk factors underlying teen pregnancy.
Congress is on the clock to address the looming deadline in which Planned Parenthood is set to regain federal funding. The Trump administration had previously paused Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood until July 4, 2026, as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill. It is up to lawmakers to ensure that Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers do not receive future federal funding.
