Expect “airport” style security at the big events during the 4th of July weekend.

For the nation’s 250th anniversary Independence Day celebrations in Washington D.C., people can certainly expect one thing: more security.
Folks attending Independence Day celebrations should anticipate additional security, long screening lines, and a marked law enforcement presence as authorities work to guard against a range of potential threats, former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said on Newsmax Wednesday.
Wolf told “Wake Up America” that guarding the big crowds expected on the National Mall poses a difficult challenge, especially with President Donald Trump and other senior administration officials expected to attend the festivities.
“I certainly do” have security concerns, Wolf said when asked about potential threats heading into the holiday weekend.
“Just given what I know about large gathering events and what we’re going to see on the mall here in D.C. and the amount of people and, obviously, you’re going to have President Trump, you’re going to have other members of the Cabinet and other folks there at the fireworks display — I think the Secret Service, the National Capital Region, and all the law enforcement are taking this very, very seriously,” he said.
In addition, securing an event attended by hundreds of thousands of people requires authorities to prepare for several types of risks, Wolf said.
Yesterday, I joined leaders at @SecretService Headquarters to preview 4th of July security preparations for America’s 250th birthday.

“It’s a very difficult job when you have hundreds of thousands of folks showing up to a large gathering like this,” Wolf said. “You have lone actors, you have drones, you have any number of threats that they have to contend with.”
He predicted attendees should be prepared for enhanced security measures similar to those used at airports.
“You’re likely going to see a very, very heavy presence on that National Mall,” Wolf said. “I think we talked about airport-style security.”
“You’re going to see long lines, and all of that is just to protect those individuals and those participants and others that are showing up there,” he explained.
