On Tuesday, July 28th, the White House honored the 45th anniversary of the martyrdom of Blessed Stanley Rother, the first American-born martyr beatified by the Catholic Church.

President Trump praised Fr. Rother’s heroic witness, recalling how he left Oklahoma to serve the people of Guatemala, translated Scripture, built schools and hospitals, and ultimately gave his life rather than abandon his flock. The statement also highlighted his legacy as a testament to faith, courage, religious liberty, and sacrificial love.

“The shepherd cannot run at the first sign of danger.” — Blessed Stanley Rother

May his example continue to inspire Catholics and all people of faith.
