President Donald Trump has hopes that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Health and Human Services Secretary, will lower the number of vaccines on children, according to a story by Newsmax.
On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting sources close to the matter, that Trump has constantly pressed Kennedy to do more to probe the supposed link between vaccines and autism, despite decades of scientific research finding no evidence of a causal link.
Trump has brought up the issue in several meetings with Kennedy, including a lunch in May and an Oval Office meeting in June, venting frustration that the health secretary has not moved more quickly to remodel the federal childhood vaccination schedule.
The president believes reducing the number of recommended childhood vaccines could sooner or later reduce autism rates, although scientists have not established such a connection.
Kush Desai, the spokesman for the White House told the Journal the administration is unswerving when it comes to addressing concerns about more autism diagnoses through what he called “Gold Standard Science.”
“Countless parents with questions and concerns about America’s skyrocketing autism rates have long been ignored if not mocked,” Desai said. “The Trump administration is committed to leaving no stone unturned to finally address these concerns with Gold Standard Science.”
HHS spokeswoman Emily Hilliard said Kennedy and Trump are aligned in their approach.
“Secretary Kennedy and President Trump are aligned in their commitment to confronting the chronic disease epidemic affecting America’s children through rigorous, gold-standard science,” Hilliard said.
