California Democrats have come under scrutiny after it was exposed that the state does not trace noncitizens on its voter rolls, posing stark reservations about fulfilling federal criteria.
According to a story by the Daily Wire, the revelation comes in conjunction with discoveries from a Department of Homeland Security review that identified about 250,000 noncitizens registered to vote across California, prompting calls for immediate roll cleanups.
“According to a DHS review of state voter rolls and public records, they identified approximately 278,000 non-citizens who are registered to vote in federal elections,” the White House stated. “Since Democrat states refused to share their voter files, the real number is actually much higher — yet even this limited analysis found more than a quarter of a million foreigners illegally registered to vote. Put together, these disclosures reveal an election system so broken and vulnerable that no one can possibly defend it.”
The executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, Jordan Sekulow, said that his organization presented public records requests looking for specifics on state efforts to protect voter rolls. But the California Secretary of State’s Office answered that its central registration system does not keep a concrete category or reason for cancellations based on non-citizenship.
“California’s own Department of Justice — the agency charged with enforcing the state’s election laws — has no written policy for what happens when someone reports illegal voting. Not redacted. Not withheld. Nonexistent,” Sekulow wrote.
