During a recent interview, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Joe Kent reiterated what he has already publicly claimed: that the FBI, and Kash Patel personally, instructed him to stop investigating the Charlie Kirk assassination about a week or two after the murder occurred and that NCTC’s access to the case information was subsequently blocked.
Catholics for Catholics president John Yep shared the clip of Kent’s interview, asking why the FBI would have blocked the NCTC’s investigation. This prompted a charged response from conservative commentator Dan Bongino, who also served as the Deputy Director of the FBI under President Trump and Director Kash Patel until the beginning of January 2026.
On his podcast, Bongino referred to Kent and Yep as “suckers” and characterized their comments as “stupid,” and used ChatGPT to try and prove that the NCTC did not have investigative authority over the case.
INVESTIGATION INTO FOREIGN INVOLVEMENT IN CHARLIE KIRK'S ASSASSINATION BLOCKED BY THE FBI?

Wow, so it was @FBIDirectorKash who blocked @joekent16jan19 former Director of Counterterrorism, from investigating the foreign leads into Charlie’s assassination.
I trust Joe Kent.
Now…
Kent responded to Bongino and explained the role of NCTC: NCTC intelligence analysts were actually requested by the FBI to assist the agency in their investigation. After assisting in the investigation for about a week or two, “we were told that our services were no longer required – that we no longer had access to the repository the FBI had where all the information on the investigation was being kept,” Kent explained.
“I protested, I disagreed,” Kent said. “I thought that we still had a lot more work to do and I still believe that to this day.” Kent repeated his concerns that there was a larger network of people who may have known about the planned assassination of Charlie Kirk, given that there were multiple social media posts ahead of time indicating that Kirk would be killed on September 10 in Utah.
General Michael Flynn shared Kent’s video response on X and similarly quoted Kirk, who said, “It is critical to continue to ask questions because it is the only thing that keeps us free…”
Flynn continued: “Our founding fathers believed that power without oversight inevitably leads to corruption, insisting that public servants and institutions must remain strictly answerable to the people.”
“This is how and why we have sustained our nation for 250 years. Keep asking tough questions and keep demanding answers on everything our government does,” Flynn concluded.
