Former Planned Parenthood employee Jacqueline C. Colyer is suing the abortion giant, alleging that she was fired for reporting an illegal late-term abortion that took place at a clinic in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Colyer served as the vice president in the human resources department at Planned Parenthood Great Rivers.
A report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says that in 2024, Colyer learned about an illegal abortion that took place in 2022. The abortion took the life of a 28-week child and was performed at the clinic outside normal operating hours. A colleague of Colyer had been called on a Sunday to unlock the building.
Illinois law at the time restricted abortion after 24-26 weeks and only allowed it if “the professional judgment of the health care professional” deemed “the abortion is necessary to protect the life or health of the patient.”
Colyer says when she learned about this abortion, she submitted a report via what she believed was an anonymous tip line.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes that Colyer “encouraged investigators to review the clinic’s cameras and after-hours key-fob records” and that allegedly, a second tipster reported the same incident three weeks later.
According to Colyer’s complaint, two weeks after submitting the tip, she received formal discipline from Planned Parenthood for “insubordination and dishonesty.”
Upon her first day returning from temporary medical leave months later, she was fired.
Interim chief executive Richard Muniz of Planned Parenthood of Great Rivers, the same individual who issued the original formal discipline, delivered the news of her job termination as well. “I’m sure you know what’s happening. You are not a good fit,” the lawsuit accuses him of saying to Colyer.
The case is set to be heard by Judge Joshua Divine who previously served as Missouri’s solicitor general. In that role, he sided with the state in their effort to block Planned Parenthood clinics from receiving Medicaid reimbursements.
