State Department Has Revoked More than 175,000 Visas Since Trump’s Return

The Trump administration is taking no prisoners when it comes to revoking visas.

The administration has revoked over 175,000 visas held by foreign nationals since President Donald Trump came back to office, quoting criminal activity, fraud, calls for violence against Americans, visa violations and threats to national security, the State Department announced on Monday, according to a story by Newsmax.

The State Department said the visa cancellations are part of an ongoing evaluating task created to identify foreign nationals who transgress the conditions of their visas or pose a danger to the U.S.

The majority of the revocations come from encounters with law enforcement, with assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug-related offenses among the leading causes. Other cases involved reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, and embezzlement.

In addition, the State Department has revoked more than 100 visas in one U.S. embassy in North Africa involving so-called “birth tourism,” in which foreign nationals supposedly traveled to the U.S. primarily to give birth in order to obtain American citizenship for their children.

Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the State Department will continue to identify, investigate, and revoke the visas of foreign nationals who threaten the safety of the American people.

The department said its vetting efforts continue after visas are issued, allowing officials to take action when new information emerges about a visa holder’s criminal conduct, immigration violations, or other activities.

“The State Department will continue to identify, investigate, and revoke the visas of foreign nationals who threaten the safety of the American people,” the department said. “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right. The Department remains committed to using every tool available to protect our communities from those who abuse it.”
