UK Distributes Pamphlet to Migrants Telling Them Not to Rape or Harass People

In an effort to curb rape and sexual harassment, Britain’s authorities are dispersing leaflets to asylum seekers and migrants that state in plain, direct terms that raping and harassing people will have them jailed.

The British government is distributing a nine-page booklet titled “Understanding behaviors and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers,” according to the Home Office. According to a story by the Daily Caller, the rules are for everyone in the nation, not only those seeking asylum claims.

For instance, the section on consent cautions the newly arrived that both parties must voluntarily approve of any sexual act and that an agreement does not include persons who are sleeping, intoxicated or unresponsive, according to the Home Office. In addition, someone may retract from an agreement whenever they decide, even mid-encounter, and the rule applies inside marriages.

“If you have sex with someone without their consent, this is called rape. Rape is a serious crime in the UK,” the booklet reads.

Andy Burnham, the Labor Prime Minister supported the release, saying ministers wanted UK law to be understood unambiguously.

“As a government, we have a very clear principle. If you break UK law, you will be removed from the country,” Burnham told reporters, according to ITV News. School Standards Minister Georgia Gould said arrivals must first grasp British law while cautioning against sweeping claims about migrants, according to IBTimes UK, which reported the booklet restates existing law rather than creating any.

But opposition individuals countered by saying the pamphlet proved ministers had lost their grip on the border.

“Instead of trying to train these mainly young, male illegal immigrants to behave in a civilized way towards women, they should be deported,” Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said, according to the BBC.
