Those who knew the late Charlie Kirk personally may have been aware that Kirk was inching closer to Catholicism. John Yep, president of Catholics for Catholics, is just one of those people – Yep knew Charlie and has publicly attested to him being on the path to Catholicism. Other friends of Charlie have shared similar stories.
1. Charlie attended Catholic Mass daily.
Charlie Kirk was frequently seen attending daily Mass at his local parish, according to Yep. A parishioner at St. Bernadette’s parish in Scottsdale, Arizona told the Catholic Standard that Kirk attended Mass there as well as the pastor, Fr. Don Kline.
2. Charlie had a devotion to the Blessed Mother and was praying the Rosary.
Kirk had made a public shift in his approach to the Blessed Mother as a Protestant.
Less than two months before he died, Kirk posted a video to his YouTube entitled “Mary is the Solution to Toxic Feminism.” In responding to someone who had called into this show who criticized Catholics and their devotion to Mary, Kirk admitted he still had questions concerning the Catholic faith and the Virgin Mary, but he said the following:
But let me first say, I think we as Protestants and evangelicals under-venerate Mary. She was very important. She was a vessel for our Lord and Savior. I think that we as evangelicals and Protestants, we’ve overcorrected. We don’t talk about Mary enough. We don’t venerate her enough. Mary was clearly important to early Christians. There’s something there. In fact, I believe one of the ways that we fix toxic feminism in America, is Mary is the solution. Have more young ladies be pious, be reverent, to be full of faith, slow to anger, slow to words at times. Mary is a phenomenal example and I think a counter to so much of the toxicity of feminism in the modern era.
John Yep also confirmed Charlie’s growing love for Our Lady. The two of them texted about Catholics needing to pray the rosary for President Trump, and Yep says he would send pictures of Our Lady and he would respond positively.
Candace Owens also told her audience that Kirk was praying the rosary.
3. Charlie had a spiritual director – a Catholic priest.
Charlie sought spiritual advice from a Catholic priest. He publicly stated in July 2025, “I’m very close to even my local Catholic priest, Father Kline. Great guy,” referring to Fr. Don Kline of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Fr. Kline came to Charlie’s home the night before he died to pray with him.
4. Charlie had a Catholic burial and funeral.
Yep says this has been substantiated, and he has personally seen pictures of the funeral Mass at a Catholic parish. “That’s not hearsay; that’s legit,” Yep said in a recent interview.
5. Charlie Kirk died with a medal of St. Michael the Archangel.
Charlie was wearing this medal at the time of his death, and widow Erika Kirk herself told Fox News that he loved wearing it. Erika said Charlie “loved St. Michael, so every time he put [the medal] on, he just felt like it was his armor.’”
6. Bishop Brennan confirmed that Charlie Kirk personally told him, “I’m this close” to converting to Catholicism.
In early September, just days before his death, Kirk and Bishop Joseph Brennan of Diocese of Fresno attended a pro-life event in California. Apparently, Kirk told the bishop, “I’m this close to becoming Catholic.” Catholics for Catholics reported on Bishop Brennan’s testimony in September 2025:
Robert Brennan, a Catholic journalist for the Angelus magazine, wrote in an article posted on September 18th, that a week before his murder, Charlie Kirk attended a pro-life prayer breakfast in Visalia, CA, where he shared a private moment with Bishop Joseph Brennan, who happens to be Robert’s brother. During the exchange, Kirk spoke with love of his Catholic wife and children, his attendance at Mass, and his love for “his Catholic pastor”. As they parted, he alluded to rumors of his potential conversion to Catholicism, saying, “I’m this close.”
Robert wrote:
“I know of two distinctive events that took place prior to his (Charlie’s) murder.
One was a recent video Kirk made suggesting to his Protestant co-religionists that they did not give the Blessed Mother her due. It was a video that could have been shown in a Catholic school religion class. He even suggested her example was a Christian template applicable across other denominations.
The other was a personal exchange between Charlie Kirk and a Catholic bishop who happens to be my brother: Bishop Joseph Brennan of Fresno. The bishop has given me permission to divulge the content of that conversation.
A little more than a week before his murder, Kirk attended a pro-life prayer breakfast in Visalia, California, which is in the Diocese of Fresno. The bishop was among those in attendance and had a brief, private moment with Kirk.
It was there that Kirk told the bishop about his Catholic wife and children and how he attended Mass with them. He punctuated this conversation with “I love my Catholic pastor.”
As they were parting to attend the more public portion of the prayer breakfast, Kirk mentioned speculation regarding his contemplation of entering the Catholic Church, saying: “I’m this close.”
