Looking to renew the fight against abortion, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is forming an alliance with Christian leaders, Republican leaders and candidates to sign legislation that would ban abortive pills.
Called the “Declaration for Life,” the legislation would ban abortion, including a federal prohibition on mifepristone, according to a story by Newsmax.
Hawley released the four-page declaration after presenting the first Missouri Prayer Breakfast with dozens of pastors in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building, The Hill reported Wednesday.
“This is a declaration for life, calling on the country to once again embrace a culture of life and in particular to put a stop to the scourge of the abortion drug known as mifepristone,” Hawley said.
“Unfortunately, the Republican Party has lost its voice on the life issue and in that vacuum there are leaders that are stepping forward, like Sen. Hawley, calling upon the church, communities and the country to step up on behalf of the unborn,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council.

The declaration asks candidates to support legal protections for unborn children and a federal prohibition on the use of mifepristone for abortion.
“So long as the abortion drug can turn every mailbox in America into an abortion clinic, state laws alone cannot protect human life. We need a national response,” the declaration says. “As such, we call on Congress to end the scourge of mail-order abortions by banning the abortion drug.”
Mifepristone, which is used with misoprostol in medication abortions, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000. Hawley has repeatedly pressed the FDA and Congress to restrict its availability.
