As the CEO of a system of life-affirming pregnancy support medical clinics around the state of Florida, I was compelled to share a few thoughts concerning recent events.
The ongoing Lindsay Clancy murder proceedings and this story (Baby Moses Case), have brought to light a bitter irony. This second case especially hit home for me as it took place near my hometown in upstate New York and only a few minutes from where I did an internship as a college student thirty years ago.
Separate from all the discussions regarding potential psychological causes and culpability for these horrific murders, the one thing that everybody seems to agree upon is that it is wrong to take the life of children after birth, especially when it’s a parent of the child.
The irony is that while we are horror-stricken when someone kills a newborn child, a large percentage of Americans support late-term abortions! The recent image of the smiling women standing around the Massachusetts governor legalizing abortions up to birth is haunting. People were not aware that this is the tenth state in the nation to do so.
At the same time, while the outrage over late-term abortions is absolutely justified, I am saddened that equal anger is not elicited regarding all abortions, even at the earliest stages. All reputable embryologists confirm that human life begins at fertilization. A person is a person no matter how small, and therefore should be protected in law. Location, age, condition, and level of development have nothing to do with a person’s worth. Dr. Lile, the “Pro-Life Doc” who does surgeries on babies in utero recently shared in a presentation to CPCI (Watch Here), “A patient is also a person, no matter how small.”
Moreover, from a legal perspective, as the 14th Amendment of the Constitution states, “….nor shall any state deprive any PERSON of life…..” For this reason, abortion is not a “state issue.” Constitutional personhood is right there in the highest law of the land, clear as day, waiting to be enforced. We don’t need new laws, or amendments – we just need the Supreme Court to declare when you and I deserve to have our God-given right to life protected. Until they do, countless lives will be lost.
God says to us in Sacred Scripture, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15).
Rest assured, that despite the division and irony in our country, with your support and God’s help, CPCI, and the 3500 other life-affirming pregnancy support centers and clinics in our country, will “not forget” our call to assist men, women, and babies around the entire state of Florida with our life-saving resources.
