Conservative commentator and popular podcaster Tucker Carlson did not hold back in a recently aired interview with NPR.
Sitting down with Steve Inskeep, Carlson reflected on the impact that the Iranian war has had on President Trump’s legacy, especially as someone who previously supported him in such a public manner.
Carlson says that just four days before the war with Iran broke out, he seriously cautioned the president against moving forward while in the Oval Office with him.
“If you do this…the United States will be kicked out of the Gulf,” Carlson recounted. “The American empire will begin to collapse. Your legacy will be destroyed along with your party.”
“He looked at me and said, ‘Yes, you’re right. But in the end, we all die anyway, so it doesn’t matter.’ That’s exactly what he said.”

Carlson still holds that the United States was essentially a “hostage,” pushed by a foreign country (Israel), to enter the war with Iran. “It is the most profoundly destructive thing any single decision a president has made in our history,” Carlson said. “I feel sorry for him. I’m not angry at him personally…I don’t think that he had the latitude to make this decision on his own. So, you know, I have pity.”
He does not think that the “uniparty” of Democrats and Republicans will impeach President Trump for this war “because both parties agree with it and that’s kind of the point.”
But should he be removed from office? Inskeep asked.
Carlson suggested the president should have been removed via the 25th Amendment when he threatened the destruction of humanity through nuclear weapons, likely referring to the April 7 Truth Social post in which Trump said “a whole civilization will die tonight.” A couple of weeks later, the president seemed to walk that notion back, clarifying that “a nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody.”
Given the recent gift of 40,000 bombs to Israel from the United States, Carlson believes that Israel is still calling the shots in the war. These bombs weigh 2,000 lbs each.
“That’s…six times the destructive force of Little Boy, the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in August of ‘45. Six times. So it’s kind of hard even to understand how much that is. And the Israelis are not buying this. Of course they were given the money appropriated by Congress to the executive in order to purchase these.”
“So they are getting these for free at a time when the US military is so short of munitions that we’re constrained, completely constrained because we don’t have enough munitions. So, um, what does that tell you?” Carlson continued.
“Where did this idea come from?” Carlson rhetorically asked, referring to the gift of bombs. “It came from the US embassy in Jerusalem. Who’s the ambassador? Mike Huckabee. Completely
an extremist and a committed Christian Zionist. His deputy who runs the embassy is the stepson of Mark Levin. It’s like you couldn’t make this up.”
“None of this is an anti-semitic conspiracy theory. There’s nothing anti-Semitic about it,” Carlson noted.
