Once it was the place where gender procedures were performed on minors.
But now, that hospital has become the first detransition clinic to formally open in Texas.
Texas Children’s Hospital opened the nation’s first detransition clinic on Monday, according to a story by the Daily Wire. It offers free medical care to patients looking to reverse gender treatments after a landmark $10 million settlement over the hospital’s treatment of minors.
Vanessa Sivadge, the former Texas Children’s nurse and whistleblower announced the clinic’s opening, celebrating the victory after revealing the hospital’s transgender medical practices and helping bring inquiry to its billing of taxpayer-funded Medicaid.
“I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard,” Sivadge wrote Monday. “This win is for them.”
According to the Daily Wire story, Texas Children had provided gender-transition treatments to minors for years, with the settlement addressing alleged wrongdoing dating back to 2010. Ken Paxton, the Texas Republican Attorney General who’s now running for U.S. Senate, initiated a probe in 2023 after allegations came up that the hospital continued providing prohibited treatments to children.
🚨Today, Texas Children’s Hospital has officially launched their Detransition Clinic 🚨 Under the settlement, TCH must provide multidisciplinary detransition-related care FREE OF CHARGE for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, social work, and speech pathology. I extend my heartfelt gratitude once again to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and my attorneys at the Burke Law Group for their extraordinary dedication, sacrifice, and tireless efforts throughout this fight. Their commitment helped turn a painful and difficult chapter into an opportunity for meaningful change. @KenPaxtonTX @BurkeLawTweets I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard. This win is for them. I hope TCH’s admirable effort to fund and launch Americas first detransition clinic becomes a turning point for the entire country. That this clinic is not the exception, but the first of many. Today’s a good day. ❤️ Link⬇️

The hospital allegedly wrongly billed Medicaid for gender procedures using false diagnosis codes, Sivadge said. The hospital disputed wrongdoing.
Under the settlement, the Texas Children must provide detransition-related care free of charge for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, fertility counseling, mental health services, and primary care. The clinic serves patients through age 21, with certain gynecological services available to older patients, according to the clinic website.
