Speaking with Newsmax, Louis Prevost said that the cancer that the Holy Father was just diagnosed with was caught “early enough” and that “he’ll be able to heal from the surgery and go on with his papal ministry.”
Louis himself is actually being treated for cancer in Tampa, Florida. He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2017.
“I think my positive attitude and his positive attitude have gone a long way towards keeping me alive and here on Earth and relatively healthy,” Louis told Newsmax. “And the same thing will be with him.”

He also emphasized that “power of prayer goes a long way.”
On Wednesday afternoon, the Holy See Press Office provided an update on the pope’s condition.
The medical team relayed the following:
“This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed.”
According to the report, Pope Leo XIV has already resumed walking around his room and eating normally, and that “recovery is proceeding as expected.”
He even celebrated Mass in Gemelli Hospital in a special room on Wednesday.
The Holy Father is expected to remain in the hospital for about a week.
