Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former wife of now California Governor Gavin Newsom and prior girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr., admitted Tuesday that her time as U.S. Ambassador to Greece is coming to an end, but swore to defend herself against misconduct allegations after the White House asked her to resign.

“These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity,” Guilfoyle wrote on X late Tuesday morning, after the White House confirmed it had asked her to resign.

“I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional,” she added, according to a story by Newsmax. “I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”

Nevertheless, Guilfoyle did not provide a specific departure date in her statement, which defended her diplomatic record and uttered thankfulness to President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“While my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end,” she wrote.

On Tuesday, the new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed that Guilfoyle had been asked to resign during ongoing allegations of improper and potentially illegal conduct before and during her tenure in Athens.

Zacharia praised Guilfoyle, saying she “has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”

Among the allegations against Guilfoyle include a claim by Republican donor Eric Deters that Guilfoyle asked him for $100,000 to pay her personal American Express bill before her confirmation as ambassador.

Deters provided documents and messages to The Washington Post, which reported that Guilfoyle challenged their authenticity.
