Wheaton Baseball Player Dies on His Way Home from Mass

The community of Wheaton College has been rocked by the sudden death of Tomassino Offer, an 18-year old freshman and member of the baseball team.

“Tommy,” as he was called by his friends, had just come from Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church when his car was struck by a train.

Reports say after waiting for a westbound train to pass by, Offer began crossing the tracks, not realizing that an eastbound train was approaching.

Rev. Santos Castillo of St. Michael’s recalled seeing Offer who waved to him as he left with a friend. He said Offer, a Michigan-native, had already become a devoted parishioner.

“He was Catholic. He came here very diligently every Sunday to worship with us. He was a nice kid. Didn’t talk a lot, but he was here, and he prayed,” Castillo said.

His memorial Mass was held this past Monday, and Wheaton College held its own memorial on Sunday.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,

and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed

rest in peace.  Amen.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Requiescant in pace. Amen.
