The Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest of its kind in the nation, faces not only federal enforcement but possibly the loss of federal funding, according to the Trump administration.
The reason? Improperly hiding sensitive student information from parents, according to a story by the New York Post.
The Department of Education and Department of Justice action also renews the explosive controversy over the Biden administration’s counter to furious parents at school-board meetings, after the National School Boards Association characterized some conduct as potentially amounting to “a form of domestic terrorism.”
Monday’s announcement during its launching an “enforcement action” against LAUSD over policies that allegedly require school employees to conceal sensitive information, such as a student’s gender identity, from parents.

“We are grateful to the Department of Justice for partnering with us to hold rogue schools accountable, including the Los Angeles Unified School District, and urge all state Attorneys General to work with us in upholding the letter of the law,” she added.
In addition, the administration also sent a joint letter to state attorneys general all over the country, cautioning that schools must comply with federal laws protecting parents’ rights to access information about their children.
“Parents are children’s natural providers and protectors,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet K. Dhillon said.
“The Biden-Harris DOJ labeled concerned parents as threats for exercising their right to know what was happening at their kids’ schools,” Dhillon added.
