In a post on X Sunday night that has already been viewed almost 90 million times, conservative commentator Tucker Carlson warned that the Trump administration – under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose political future is uncertain due to the country’s recent elections – might imminently launch a nuclear strike on Iran.
“The target would be Pickax [sic] Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place,” Tucker wrote.
“The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. ‘Bibi calls Trump about it every day,’ says an informed observer,” he continued.
While speaking with Fox News host Sean Hannity Monday night, the president may have confirmed the veracity of the report – that at least some kind of strike on Pickaxe is on the table.
“Think about the war you’re talking about,” President Trump said to Hannity. “We bombed out with Midnight Hammer, we bombed out all of their potential nuclear power.”
“Now we might have to go after Pickaxe [Mountain], but that’s not a big deal…literally, we can do that in one hour,” he continued.
Tucker – along with many other critics – have suggested that Netanyahu is desperate for some kind of action that would keep him in power.

Just before Israel’s elections last week, there was a report that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Chief was resisting a military move against Iran that was to be used as a pretext to keep Netanyahu in power. A political opponent then formally asked the Israeli Attorney General to open a criminal investigation into Netanyahu for treason.
“Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war,” Tucker wrote.
Other foreign policy analysts have posited that previous actions undertaken by the Trump administration “saved” Netanyahu politically, as he was facing corruption charges in Israel prior to the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas.
Tucker says that Netanyahu has been busy applying “maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration” which include Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. He also reported that at the end of September, “Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused.”
The Gulf economies are already “teetering” after eight months of war, Tucker explained, and military escalation would make a “global depression” certain.
“A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people,” he continued in his post on X.
Tucker says that President Trump is waiting until the weekend to decide whether to proceed.
“Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made,” he wrote towards the end of his post.
It is unclear who Tucker’s sources are on this information, although when he recently spoke out in a similar manner to reveal that the United States was planning on sending 40,000 bombs to Israel, that report turned out to be true.
