Taking one more step towards reaching a ceasefire between Russian and Ukraine, first lady Melania Trump will host representatives from both countries at the White House on Thursday.
The first lady is scheduled to talk about the ceasefire in Oleshky, the White House said in a statement Tuesday, according to a story by Newsmax.
According to the statement, Melania Trump autonomously initiated conversations between Moscow and Kyiv and was instrumental in securing a ceasefire in the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region, according to the announcement.
Melania Trump’s actions denote a rare diplomatic role for an American first lady, bringing representatives of two countries still at war together on U.S. soil.
