According to the Wall Street Journal’s latest national poll results, former president Donald Trump would win against President Joe Biden in a hypothetical rematch in 2024. The poll revealed that with just their names on the ballot, Trump leads Biden by four points at 47-43 percent, marking the first time in this election cycle that Trump is ahead of Biden in the poll. Trump’s lead extends to six points at 37-31 percent when five potential third-party candidates are included in the survey. The poll also shows that independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has an 8 percent standing, which is half of the combined support of the five candidates.
Biden’s approval ratings continue to drop as the election draws nearer. The survey reported that only 37 percent of respondents approve of Biden’s job performance, while 61 percent disapprove, marking a new low in his presidency. The poll also revealed that Biden’s policies, including “Bidenomics,” may not be helpful for his reelection campaign. Fifty-three percent of respondents stated that they’ve been negatively impacted by his policies, while only 23 percent say the opposite. On the other hand, Trump’s policies have gained more favor, with 49 percent saying that his administration helped them, while 37 percent disagreed.
The poll included a set of hypothetical one-on-one scenarios, which showed that South Carolina governor Nikki Haley beats Biden by a more significant margin than both Trump and Florida governor Ron DeSantis. Haley has a 17-point lead at 51-34 percent, while DeSantis ties with Biden 45-45 percent.
The Saturday Journal poll surveyed 1,500 respondents across the U.S. from November 29 to December 4, and has a 2.5 percentage point margin of error.
