Using names like restorative justice, Social Emotional Learning or DEI, school districts all over the nation have spent millions of dollars destined for poor students to thrust left-leaning ideologies in schools, according to the Daily Wire.
In a comprehensive report, Defending Education, a watchdog group, showed how 55 school districts have employed federal funding to foster programs like Social Emotional Learning, DEI and restorative justice. These funds are intended to help students from poor families. The funds have been allocated for Title I and Title II of the Every Student Succeeds Act, according to the Daily Wire.
The plans may have good intentions, but the monies have often been spent on DEI programs, racial equity consulting, coaching teachers to grade with equity and other racially focused initiatives. The report found that “$19,022,259 in federal funding, primarily through Title I, II, and IV, was spent by districts on DEI, restorative justice, and Social Emotional Learning,” according to the Daily Wire.
“Instead of prioritizing reading, writing and arithmetic, school districts across the country have spent nearly $20 million in federal funds on organizations and consultants promoting progressive ideology in K-12 education,” Defending Education Investigative Reporter Kendall Tietz told The Daily Wire.
“Programs centered on social emotional learning, as well as race- and sex-based content, often seek to influence students’ thoughts and beliefs by framing their understanding of the world through the lens of identity politics. Time and again, district spending illustrates how lucrative far-Left programming is for education activists,” she added.
