His Eminence, Cardinal Raymond Burke, published on April 29th the Novena for the Sacred College of Cardinals gathered in Conclave to elect the Roman Pontiff. The Novena was translated into more than 12 languages so that the greatest number of faithful could join in prayer.
The Cardinal had encouraged the People of God to pray it from April 29th to May 5th. However, on May 5th, His Eminence, who is in the Vatican preparing for the upcoming Conclave, posted a message on his X account urging the faithful to continue praying without ceasing, saying, “Given the gravity of the situation, I ask those who complete the Novena on May 5th to immediately begin a second Novena, continuing to pray it until the new Successor of Saint Peter is elected.”
Here is the full message:
“Note for those praying the Novena for the Sacred College of Cardinals gathered in Conclave to elect the Roman Pontiff April 29, 2025 The Sacred College of Cardinals, during the General Congregation held last Monday, April 28, set the date for the beginning of the Conclave as May 7, 2025. Given the gravity of the situation, I ask those who conclude the Novena on May 5 to immediately begin a second Novena, continuing to pray it until the new Successor of Saint Peter is elected.
To those who began the Novena after April 26, I ask that you continue praying the Novena until the new Successor of Saint Peter is elected. If you have not yet begun praying the Novena, I urge you to do so immediately. I thank all those who have been praying the Novena Prayer or who will begin praying it now. We can trust that Our Lady of Guadalupe will powerfully intercede for the election of a good and holy Shepherd for the Universal Church.
