Catholics for Catholics President, John C. Yep, is outraged that the FBI under former President Joe Biden had the audacity to do a nationwide investigation of traditional Catholic groups.
New information just released indicates that the FBI was doing far more than using a single office to probe Catholics, said Yep. In fact, the newly revealed files that were acquired by Charles E. Grassley, Senate Judiciary Chairman, show that the Bureau was conducting a national investigation on traditional believers.
“Catholic Americans are still trying to come to grasp with how former President Biden, a fellow self-professed Catholic, could have allowed his FBI to systematically target members of his own Faith,” said Yep. “Few believed former director, Christopher Wray when he testified before Congress that this anti-Catholic memo was restricted to one lone field office in Richmond. As it always does, the truth finds a way to the surface.”
“We now know for certain that the memo was sent to over 1,000 FBI agents with a second memo being prepared for larger distribution,” Yep said. “Last November, thousands of Catholics for Catholics volunteers worked tirelessly to give President Trump the largest Catholic landslide in US history. We are now demanding accountability for those who in the Department of Justice who authorized and allowed this injustice to take place.”
At issue is that FBI under the Biden era was probing traditional Catholics far more than it was previously revealed, according to new internecine documents. The newly revealed FBI files were acquired by Charles E. Grassley, Senate Judiciary Chairman.
According to published reports in several media outlets, the FBI under the Biden era hid the scope of its anti-Catholic operation, which then-FBI Director Wray told Congress was reduced to just one memo in 2023.
But the uncovered files show that the FBI was doing a nation-wide investigation of “Radical Traditionalist Catholics.” Nevertheless, Wray and other top FBI brass tried to downplay it as a single memo.
The investigation on traditional Catholics was revealed in February 2023, when a former agent and FBI whistleblower showed a memo created by the Bureau’s office in Richmond Virginia. The memo was intended to be an alert to investigate “Radical Traditionalist Catholics” who were allegedly involved in a bogus “anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology,” adding that they are prone to “extremist ideological beliefs and violent rhetoric.”
The fact is, traditional Catholic groups are composed of very diverse parishioners. More and more minorities are joining them, especially from the Latino, African-American and Asian communities.
In Mexico, in places like Guadalajara, people can be seen making lines of up to two blocks away just to get into Sunday Masses. The reverence they hold for their worship is nothing like what the FBI under the Biden era indicated.
Most of the traditional groups are made up from large, beautiful families that only want to love God in a more dedicated, reverent way. This is nothing like what the former FBI was indicating.
In a letter on Monday, Grassley, an Iowa Republican, showed his findings to Kash Patel, the new FBI director. Grassley told Patel his concerns about the memo, the Bureau’s coverup and lack of responsiveness to congressional inquiries.
Contrary to what Wray told a congressional inquiry that it was just a “single memo,” the Feb.2 2023 memo was sent to over 1,000 FBI employees across the country. It included two Catholic groups who were deemed as “hate groups.”
