No deal.
A top brass Iranian official said Friday that his country will not talk with U.S. negotiators unless Israel halts its air strikes against Iran.
According to The Epoch Times, Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign Minister told reporters, “We are not seeking negotiations with anyone—especially not with the United States—on this matter” as long as the airstrikes continue.
“It is the Americans who are seeking negotiations; they have sent messages multiple times, including very serious ones. But we have explicitly told them that as long as the aggression and attacks continue, there is simply no room for talk of dialogue or diplomacy,” Araghchi said.
While the war between both countries rages on, Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian said through the Tasnim News Agency that “the only way to end the imposed war in the current conditions is ‘unconditional cessation’ of the enemy’s aggression.”
The war has been carrying on for a week now, with Israel striking many targets lately, including military sites in western and central Iran, as well as a research facility in Tehran and missile production sites.
By contrast, Iran managed to hit several targets in Israel on Thursday, including a hospital. An Israeli official said that more than 70 people were injured inside the health facility.
On Friday, Iran kept up the pressure by launching a new volley of missiles. The attack prompted sirens to go off, the Israel Defense Forces said in a social media post.
Pezeshkian said that he was scheduled to meet with foreign ministers from Europe for talks in Geneva. Europe hopes to have a diplomatic solution to the conflict and Iran’s nuclear program.
