He’s not buying it.

John Yep, president of Catholics for Catholics, said that part of the blame for the current anti-ICE Los Angeles riots belongs to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Catholic Charities and their lack of leadership.

In an interview in “The War Room,” a podcast hosted by Steve Bannon, a former top White House official during the first term of President Donald Trump, Yep said that despite a benevolent statement released by LA Archbishop Jose Gomez regarding the riots, it doesn’t hold weight.

“The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is at the epicenter of this whole entire operation. With Archbishop Gomez overseeing it, he stood by and not only stood by, but really participated in this illegal invasion of the country,” Yep told Bannon. “Let me explain. He released a statement yesterday, coming off wonderful sounding about how he’s concerned about these raids going on. But one key point, he says, ‘there is no need for the government to carry out enforcement actions in a way that provokes fear and anxiety among ordinary, hard-working immigrants and their families.’”

“Dear Archbishop, how exactly are we supposed to be carrying out this operation? Do we expect that these criminals are just going to come to ICE and say, ‘I’m turning myself in. Here we go.’ This is a joke,” Yep told Bannon. “Further, he goes on, point three, to say, ‘I urge Congress to have a fix in the immigration system.’ Ok. That’s wonderful. Where were you, Archbishop, respectfully, the last four years while your bishop’s conference were taking millions of grants and you said nothing while our Southern border was destroyed and the poor people in your community were suffering? Because these people were coming in and taking their jobs, selling drugs, human trafficking and the works. We are not buying this. It’s so sad as a Catholic to see how the Church leaders are trying to play this moral high ground.”

“The worst part of this that irks me is they knew this was going to happen. They knew how difficult it would be for Tom Homan and those amazing ICE agents to go into those communities and pull those people out who were not supposed to be there. They foresaw this and they allowed this,” Yep told Bannon. “They were taking grants, as you said, via Catholic Charities in the millions from the Biden administration to facilitate this. It’s no secret. Everybody knows this. So, to come out now and say, ‘this is horrible, we are so concerned about our local citizens, we don’t want this unrest,’ it’s a joke. I got to call their bluff for the sake of the truth, because as you always say so well Steve, we will win this battle for taking back our country when we take back the institutions: the state, the media and the church.”

Bannon asked Yep about the incident two years ago when Catholics for Catholics led a march to protest against a group of men who dressed as drag queen nuns to celebrate Pride Night at Dodger stadium. Bannon pointed out that despite thousands of angelenos who showed up to protest against the Anti-Catholic spectacle, the Archdiocese was nowhere to be seen.

“The people who showed up on Friday afternoon were mostly Hispanic men…The Hispanics in there who came legally want law and order and love our country and are sick of this transgender ideology that’s been pushed down their throats.” Yep told Bannon.

In an open letter to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Emeritus Joseph E. Strickland, said: “The truth is that having a secure border and an orderly and lawful immigration process is indeed the most compassionate approach for migrants, and it helps to safeguard against the chaos and mass suffering that is happening at our borders now. However, it is a fact that bringing illegal foreign nationals to the country and the attempts to resettle them while sidestepping immigration law has brought great sums of money into the hands of these many bishops who now protest so loudly, and who are in reality present-day Judases who stand with outstretched hands for the thirty pieces of silver.”

Yep encourages everyone to read “Charity for Sale,” by Christopher Manion. The book narrates how the Catholic Church in the country became involved in government grants “that it choked itself off from its primary mission of saving souls and leading people to Christ.”
