Catholics for Catholics President John Yep said during an interview on American Sunrise show on Real Americas Voice that some Catholic clergy and prelates like Cardinal Blase Cupich tried to hijack Pope Leo’s message during a Chicago baseball event.
“Keep in mind this is in Chicago, the one who hosted was Cardinal Blase Cupich. He has been a strong opponent of President Trump’s immigration policies,” Yep told the host of American Sunrise. “In fact, he used that platform yesterday to specifically kind of go after Trump, with what he was doing. He didn’t mention him by name. He kind of referred to the immigrants, of the undocumented as not their fault.”
“I think that Pope Leo, with his connection to the American people, you are going to see some of that liberal church contingent try to hijack the Pope’s message for their own personal gain to oppose what Trump is doing, that is to restore law and order to this country,” Yep said.

Still, Pope Leo’s message was spot on, Yep said. He concentrated on Christ, which is the main goal, he added. “It was the first message that he directed specifically at the American people. Yes, it’s a message of hope, of talking about Jesus Christ,” Yep told the American Sunrise host. “We need Pope Leo’s message. We need the message to be on Christ. He was dead on. Maybe not so much Cardinal Cupich of Chicago.”
During a video message to thousands of Catholics who gathered at his hometown of Chicago on June 14, Pope Leo XIV tried to inspire young people to be beacons of Christ for others. He spoke to them during the “Chicago Celebrates Pope Leo XIV” event at Rate Field, the home of the White Sox team.
“You are the promise of hope for so many of us,” Pope Leo said. “The world looks to you as you look around yourselves and say: We need you, we need you to come together to share with us in this common mission, as Church and in society, of announcing a message of true hope and of promoting peace, promoting harmony, among all peoples.”

Yep said that it is important that President Trump and Vice President JD Vance feel supported by Pope Leo, especially in the immigration front. In addition, the Supreme Pontiff should look into China as well.
“By the way, that Trump is trying to instill by bringing back law and order.” Yep said. “And then on the geopolitical front one of the first things that has to be done is the Chinese communist deal that was signed with the Vatican. That needs to stop.”
