Iran is getting help from a somewhat unexpected ally: Russia.
Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president said on Monday that the Kremlin is poised to help the Iranian people, after Iran has been pummeled by Israeli and American airstrikes, according to The Epoch Times.
“For our part, we are making efforts to assist the Iranian people,” Putin told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in televised comments Monday, describing the United States’ mission targeting Iran’s nuclear program as “unprovoked aggression,” according to a translation.
Araqchi was in Moscow on Monday. Iran has been trading missiles with Israel for over a week; during the weekend American forces conducted an airstrike over an Iranian nuclear center.
Putin also told Araqchi: “I am very glad that you are in Moscow today, this gives us the opportunity to discuss all these urgent issues and think together about how we could get out of the current situation.”

Putin pretty much said he condemns the attack by the US and Israel, and that he is willing to help the Iranians diplomatically, but no mention of military involvement.

Nevertheless, The Times wrote that it was not clear how Moscow could support Tehran. Both countries have been allies since a treaty that took place in January, which did not include a military defense clause.
Putin told an economic forum in St. Petersburg last week that in regards to the Israel–Iran conflict, “it is better not to get ahead of ourselves in order not to harm the process, but in my opinion, there are points of possible common ground.”
“We are not seeking to mediate, we are just proposing ideas. And if they are attractive to both countries, we’ll be happy about it … now our proposals are also being discussed, we have contacts with our Iranian friends almost on a daily basis, so let’s see,” he said, according to a Reuters transcript.
