As riots continue in Los Angeles, President Donald Trump has sent a marine force while the Gov. of California is suing him in an effort to try to block the military deployment.

According to The Epoch Times, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is looking for an emergency temporary restraining order to block the Department of Defense and Trump from using the California National Guard and U.S. Marines in Los Angeles, following violent skirmishes between immigration enforcement officers and protesters due to anti-ICE protests.

Newsom said he believes Trump’s request to use the National Guard in case of rebellion is unlawful. Newsom’s complaint mentions a lack of a qualifying rebellion, unfitting bypass of the governor, and violations of the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars the use of active-duty armed forces and federalized National Guards for civilian law enforcement.

“There is no invasion or rebellion in Los Angeles,” Newsom’s filing reads. “There is civil unrest that is no different from episodes that regularly occur in communities throughout the country, and that is capable of being contained by state and local authorities working together. And nothing is stopping the President from enforcing the laws through use of ordinary, civilian mechanisms available to federal officers.”

In the meantime, the Los Angeles Police Department reported Tuesday that law enforcement forces arrested more than 100 people, while two officers were injured. LAPD said that officers arrested 96 people for failure to disperse from the downtown area. In addition, one arrest was done for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and vandalism. Officers arrested 14 people for looting businesses.
