Farms. Hotels. Restaurants. Meat-packing plants are all off-limits.
President Donald Trump has ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to cease raids and investigative operations on them, according to The Daily Wire.
According to the New York Times, ICE official Tatum King sent an email last Thursday in which he tells the top brass of regional immigration offices to “hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels.”
The Associated Press confirmed that the email was sent by a U.S. official who spoke with them with the condition of anonymity. According to The Times, Homeland Security did not discredit the email, saying that they “will follow the president’s direction and continue to work to get the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens off of America’s streets.”
Last week President Trump said that “changes were coming” to the raids, outlining that business owners were complaining to him that the aggressive crackdowns were bad for their businesses. He told reporters at the White House that changes would come “pretty soon.”
“Farmers are being hurt badly. They have very good workers who have worked for them for 20 years. They’re not citizens, but they’ve turned out to be great, and we’re going to have to do something about that,” the President said. “We can’t take farmers and take all their people and send them back … and you know what’s going to happen, what is happening, they get rid of some of their people … and they end up hiring the criminals that have come in, the murderers from prisons and everything else.”
Still, the President reiterated on Sunday that despite sparing restaurants, hotels, farm workers and meat packers, he would be conducting the “largest Mass Deportation Operation” in U.S. history, adding that he wants to take immigration enforcement in America’s largest Democrat-run cities to another level, specifically mentioning Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
“These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
