In the latest turn in the war in Gaza, Israeli troops and drones fired upon hundreds of Palestinians who were waiting for aid, killing at least 44 people Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.
On Wednesday, a Palestinian attacker attached a bomb to an Israeli armored vehicle, killing seven soldiers, AP reported. Both incidents rapidly brought attention to Israel’s conflict with the Hamas militant group.
According to AP, health officials and Palestinian witnesses said that Israeli troops fired on crowds who were going towards getting food, killing hundreds in the last weeks. On the other hand, Israeli officials said that it has fired warning shots at crowds that advanced toward troops in a suspicious manner.
“It was a massacre,” said Ahmed Halawa. He said tanks and drones fired at people who were going towards aid trucks in Wadi Gaza, “even as we were fleeing. Many people were either martyred or wounded.”

Hossam Abu Shahada told AP that drones were hovering over, observing the crowds, then there was shooting from tanks and drones as people were moving eastward. He described a “chaotic and bloody” scene as people tried to escape.
The bloody conflict between Israel and Gaza has been ongoing since Hamas forces attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Negotiations led by U.S. officials have not been able to stop the war.
The attack on the Israeli soldiers Wednesday happened at the Gaza city of Khan Younis, where army forces have mounted operations through much of the conflict, Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, the chief army spokesman said.
“Helicopters and rescue forces were sent to the spot. They made attempts to rescue the fighters, but without success,” he said.
