Authorities arrested a shooter after the attacker left one person dead and another injured at the University of New Mexico’s campus in Albuquerque. According to a police source, U.S. Marshals arrested the shooter in Los Lunas.

The Daily Wire reported that the UNM Police Department acted early Friday morning to a report of gunshots at the Casas del Rio student housing complex. Once there, officers found two people shot; One person died while the other withstood non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed the campus and imposed a shelter-in-place, thinking the suspect may have still been there. New Mexico State Police later took over the investigation.

KOB 4 spoke to students living in the Gila building where they said the shooting commenced on the second floor. The students said they heard about “four or five shots” just before midnight and sheltered in place. They described it as one of the scariest experiences of their lives, saying they saw people running from the building toward a parking lot.

Police said there were no signs yet that there were any students – new or current – were implicated in the shooting. NMSP hasn’t said anything else about the suspect or the victims.
