It’s on.

The Trump administration got into a showdown with Harvard University as they went in front of a federal judge in Boston Monday.

At stake is the famed Ivy League school’s lawsuit against the government over federal funding cuts, according to The Daily Wire. Both partakers are seeking a final ruling on the matter.

On Monday, Boston US District Judge Allison Burroughs heard the oral argument from both sides, Harvard and the Justice Department. The judge appeared to side with Harvard, which claimed the Trump administration illegally deprived the school of $2.6 billion, according to The New York Post.

Previously, Burroughs, who had sided with Harvard in another case over the Trump administration’s attempt to block the university from enrolling foreign students, is likely to favor Harvard. The university sued the federal government in April after the Trump administration announced it would take away more than $2 billion in federal funding from the school, citing anti-Israel sentiment on the campus and its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

President Donald Trump has called Harvard “Anti-Semitic,” “Far-Left,” and “a threat to Democracy.”

“The place is a Liberal mess, allowing a certain group of crazed lunatics to enter and exit the classroom and spew fake ANGER AND HATE. It is truly horrific!” Trump added in April.

Steven Lehotsky, contending for the university, said the case is about the government trying to wield control over the “inner workings” of the university, and said the funding cuts could hamper careers as well as lead to the loss of research and the shuttering of labs.

Michael Velchik, representing the Trump administration, countered by saying that canceling research grants was well within the federal government’s scope due to Harvard violating Trump’s orders to curb antisemitism.

Nevertheless, Burroughs — who was appointed to the bench by former President Barack Obama — doubted if the government had the capacity to make “ad hoc” decisions about suppressing research dollars absent evidence the activity being funded was antisemitic in nature.

In addition, The Post reported that Burroughs also argued that the feds have provided “no documentation, no procedure” to conclude whether Harvard officials have actually done enough to curtail Jew-hatred on campus.
