President Trump gave the southern neighbor more time, after talking with Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum.

Once again President Donald Trump has delayed raising tariffs on Mexican goods, after having what he called a “very successful” call with Mexico’s president.
“More and more, we are getting to know and understand each other,” Trump said on Truth Social, regarding Claudia Scheinbaum.
Trump announced Thursday he will not raise tariffs on Mexico for another 90 days: “The complexities of a deal with Mexico are somewhat different than other nations because of both the problems, and assets, of the border.”
The President had formerly threatened to raise the blanket tariff rate on Mexican goods entering the United States to 30 percent from the current level of 25 percent.
The Epoch Times reported that in the current arrangement, Trump said Mexico will still be subjected to a 50 percent levy on aluminum, copper, and steel and a 25 percent tariff on automobiles.
Trump said that Mexico had “agreed to immediately terminate its Non-Tariff Trade Barriers, of which there were many.” He did not point to specific trade restrictions that would be removed.
Since Trump started his second term, both countries have had problems with their trade deals. Trump administration officials have cited issues with trade imbalances and fentanyl trafficking coming to the United States.
Mexican officials have countered that Mexican authorities have ramped-up their efforts to curtail the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. A strong military presence on the Mexican side of the border can be seen, with troops armed with German-made weaponry as they patrol the border areas.
Tuvimos una muy buena llamada con el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump. Evitamos el aumento de aranceles anunciado para mañana y logramos 90 días para construir un acuerdo de largo plazo a partir del diálogo.

Joining President Trump on his call to Scheinbaum was Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other White House officials, the Epoch Times reported.
President Sheinbaum also confirmed her call with Trump. Scheinbaum said on X: “We avoided the tariff increase announced for tomorrow and secured 90 days to build a long-term agreement through dialogue.”
