In a huge victory for the pro-life movement and a harsh blow for the nation’s abortion giant, Planned Parenthood’s largest affiliate announced that it closed five centers in California because of the loss of federal funding.

KCRA3 reported that Mar Monte, from Planned Parenthood, said the abortion giant was “forced” to close the centers after the passage of President Donald Trump administration’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The legislation bars Medicaid reimbursements to organizations that provide abortions.

The Planned Parenthood sites that closed are in South San Francisco, San Mateo, Gilroy, Westside/Santa Cruz and Madera.

Catholics for Catholics, a supporter of the Big, Beautiful Bill, predicted that the legislation would help in saving babies by weakening the abortion giant. In early July Catholics for Catholics posted on X that some people unfairly complain that the legislation only would defund Planned Parenthood for one year, not realizing that it is a gargantuan effort just to extract any money from it.

“Do they have any idea how much work has gone into making the government even consider it and take it seriously? Don’t they realize that in a year, hundreds of PP clinics will close because of this?” wrote Catholics for Catholics. “These clinics will likely never reopen, and thousands of babies will be saved. Thousands! Shouldn’t this be a reason to rejoice!? God bless the people who are grateful and celebrating this victory. May this be just the beginning of the great pro-life triumph!”

Astrid Bennett, Executive Director of Los Angeles Pregnancy Services, a Pro-Life center in Los Angeles, seemed to echo the comments by Catholics for Catholics.

“We are overjoyed. Planned Parenthood’s own annual report shows they aborted 402,230 unborn babies in one year according to their 2023-2024 annual report, 10,000 more abortions than the previous year, and according to the same report 97% of pregnant women who walk in end up having an abortion,” Bennett said on Friday. “For years, we’ve served mothers who felt pressured to abort there, but what they really needed was someone to listen and to offer real help.”

But this is just the beginning, Bennett said. Her center provides mothers with quality medical care, baby items, maternity homes and emotional support.

“We must continue surrounding women with truth, love, and real help. A recent study demonstrated that over 80% of women who have abortions would have chosen life if someone had offered support,” she said.

The recent blow Planned Parenthood received not only means a victory to the pro-life cause, but also to the centers, Bennett said. They can now offer hope while the abortion giant can only offer harm, she said.

“Recent studies show the abortion pill has serious risks, more than the FDA ever reported. Women deserve to know the truth and to receive ethical care. Pro-life centers are stepping up to fill the gap, not just to save babies, but to see women and families thrive. We welcome every mother with open arms and walk with her into a beautiful future filled with hope.”
