Donald Trump said the move was in response to threats made by a high-ranking Moscow official about using nuclear weapons.

In a throwback to the angst of the Cold War era, President Donald Trump corroborated that two nuclear American war submarines were sent to the Russia region as a response to bellicose comments made by a high-ranking Moscow official.
According to The Epoch Times, Trump confirmed in a post on Truth Social on Aug. 1 that he would relocate two nuclear submarines after what he called “highly provocative” remarks made by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who is currently the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council.
Trump told reporters on Monday when asked about the submarines, “I’ve already put out a statement, and the answer is, they are in the region, yeah, where they have to be.”
On July 31, Medvedev, a former president of Russia who is considered a war hawk, said that Moscow still has Soviet-era nuclear weapons and strike resources that can be used as a last resort. He suggested that his country should continue its war efforts in Ukraine.
“A threat was made that we didn’t think was appropriate, so I have to be very careful,” Trump said regarding Medvedev’s comment.
“A threat was made by a former president of Russia, and we’re going to protect our people,” he said.
Medvedev said in a post on Telegram: “If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty president of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path.”
The Times reported that Medvedev said Trump should remember “how dangerous the fabled ‘Dead Hand’ can be”—a reference to a secretive semi-automated Russian command system designed to launch Moscow’s nuclear missiles if its leadership had been taken out in a decapitating strike by a foe.
