Elon Musk, considered as the richest man in the world, reportedly has said he will desist on creating a third party and will back JD Vance for president in 2028.

In July, Musk said he would create a third party to challenge the Republicans and the MAGA movement. But according to Breitbart, commenting on a Wall Street Journal story, the billionaire has backpedaled.

“Musk has told allies that he wants to focus his attention on his companies and is reluctant to alienate powerful Republicans by starting a third party that could siphon off GOP voters,” reported The Journal.

In a turnaround, Musk “has been focused in part on maintaining ties with Vice President JD Vance, who is widely seen as a potential heir to the MAGA political movement.” The report adds that Musk is seriously “considering using some of his vast financial resources to back Vance if he decides to run for president in 2028.”

Previously Musk and President Donald Trump were tight allies. Musk supported Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign. Once his second term started, Trump put Musk as the head of the DOGE initiative, in which the billionaire used his vast team of experts to audit the federal government and recommend cutting the pork from sectors of abuse, waste and fraud.

But Trump and Musk had a falling out. The last straw between both was during the passing of the President’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which Musk considered full of wasteful spending.

Both Trump and Musk traded barbs, with the billionaire and owner of Tesla threatening to form his own political party. But now, Breitbart reports, Musk appears to have cooled down.

“Musk and his associates have told people close to him that he is considering using some of his vast financial resources to back Vance if he decides to run for president in 2028,” the report adds. “Musk spent close to $300 million to support Trump and other Republicans in the 2024 election.”

Breitbart wrote: “The good news for Musk is that the MAGA movement is not the unforgiving, forever-cast-out-the-apostates political left. We get it: families fight, sometimes bitterly. We forgive. We forget. We move on. Musk can always come home.”
