In a glaring turnaround from just a few months, illegal aliens are being deported or leaving the country in numbers higher than migrants were arriving during the Biden era.

According to the latest Census Bureau numbers, the amount of foreign-born people fell by 2.2 million from January to July, and most of that — 1.6 million — was among the illegal immigrant population, said Steven A. Camarota, the research director at the Center for Immigration Studies who calculated the numbers.

The Washington Times reported that it’s an almost inexplicable reversal from the Biden years, when illegal immigrants flooded into the U.S. at record rates, adding about 120,000 new people each month.

Since President Donald Trump took over, the illegal immigrant population has been dropping at nearly 270,000 a month, or more than twice the rate of increase under Biden.

“The best evidence we have is that the illegal population is now falling at a rate that even exceeds the massive growth that we had in Biden’s four years,” Camarota said.

Kristi Nome, Secretary of Homeland Security said that foreign leaders told her last week they are noticing a wave of people returning to their home countries after having left the U.S.

“Over and over again, I’m hearing that hundreds of thousands of their citizens are coming home, voluntarily,” she said.

The Times reported that drop in figures coincides with an enormous effort by the Trump administration, which is amassing formal arrests and deportations and has invested heavily in machinery to try to encourage illegal immigrants to leave on their own.

The new numbers come from the Current Population Survey, a monthly Census Bureau report that is employed to produce data such as the monthly unemployment figures. One of its questions prompts respondents to unveil where they were born, which produces the overall immigration number.
