It has been over three and a half years since Russia invaded Ukraine, sparking a war where thousands have lost their lives and kept the world watching and hoping for the end of it.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the possibility that peace can come between both countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may meet in Alaska on Friday, where both leaders could finally come to terms to a diplomatic agreement.
“We have a meeting with President Putin tomorrow. I think it’s going to be a good meeting,” Trump told reporters, according to Newsmax. “But the more important meeting will be the second one we’re planning.”

During a radio interview Thursday, Trump suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could be part of the meeting with Putin and him in Alaska for a second meeting after Trump holds a summit with Putin on Friday, according to The Washington Post.
The President said remaining in Alaska “would be by far the easiest” way for the three leaders to hold talks. But Trump also cautioned the meeting with Putin could go poorly — he put the odds of failure at 25 percent — and said he would return to Washington immediately in that case.
The summit is scheduled to take place Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson outside Anchorage, commencing about 11:30 a.m. (1930 GMT, 3:30 p.m. EDT), between Putin and Trump as well as a meeting of the delegations, said Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser.

It will be the Russian president’s first trip to the U.S. since 2015 for the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Because the U.S. isn’t a member of the International Criminal Court, which in 2023 issued a warrant for Putin on war crimes accusations, it’s under no requirement to detain him.
