“DC will not remain a sanctuary city. Actively shielding criminal aliens will not happen,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said.

The days of Washington D.C. as a sanctuary city are over.

In fact, Washington, D.C., has officially lost its condition as an illegal immigrant sanctuary city within the Trump administration’s clampdown on crime in the nation’s capital, according to The Daily Wire.

Chief of Police Pamela Smith was deprived of her power this week after President Donald Trump’s executive order. Instead, Attorney General Pam Bondi named Terry Cole, the Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator as the new emergency police commissioner.

Bondi said that D.C. politicians are “trying to protect criminal aliens” and that “criminals are going to flee to DC” if the nation’s capital maintains its sanctuary city policies. “We’re not going to let that happen.”

In addition, according to The Daily Wire, Bondi also cancelled three D.C. orders that limited the local police from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. She vowed that the place will not be a safe refuge for illegals.

For instance, one of the three orders Bondi canceled prohibited local police officers from using databases to ask about the immigration status of residents in D.C.

“To the extent that provisions in this Order conflict with any existing MPD directives, those directives are hereby rescinded,” Bondi wrote.

Bondi told D.C. officers: “So, yes, you must comply. You must give the information to our ICE, to our Homeland Security officers. If they have information about an illegal alien living in DC, they must give us that information.”

From now on, D.C.’s leaders must get the go ahead from Cole before sending out new directives.

However, the City’s government leaders have pushed back, with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s attorney general, Brian Schwalb, issuing a legal opinion contesting the Trump administration’s crackdown on crime in the city.
